Strategy

Choosing Cities

One strategy is to grab the best cities first. It is good solid strategy to grab two cities together so they can support each other, and where other cities are easy to capture, lets say Shanghai and Seoul. Another strategy is to wait until others have grabbed cities and then to choose cities based on the placement of others. You can choose isolated cities that do not have any opposition. Or you can choose cities that directly challenge your favorite foe!

Opening

The first priority is to capture new cities. Neutral cities have a strength of 12. When you capture a city, the strength is boosted to 60. This means that you don't really need to defend your cities at first. Also, repair your units. This can snowball into a significant material advantage if a few army corps can be translated into a few more cities. Once most of the free cities have been captured, there may be some isolated ones that noone has captured. Perhaps an entire continent! To capture an isolated city, build a transport and load it up with units. Remember you will need at least one army corp to take the city... all other units destroy it.

Middle Game

Once most cities have been captured and the power of each army starts to grow, your cities become vulnerable to attack. Here's a time to make deals, when everyone is even and everyone can hurt each other. Be careful and don't buy too many quality units until you can protect them. It can really set you back to lose a few good units early. Tanks and destroyers are cheap and good in numbers. Engineers are good to learn to use well... They have the ability to fortify and to make field repairs. Try to gain a production edge by picking up a nearby ruin, or by destroying a neighbor's city... If you can do it without making an enemy. Use politics... Talk, talk, talk... Don't be an easy target...

End Game

Your end game strategy should kick in if you realize you have no possible chance of taking it all. At this point there are a lot of things to do to try for second place. Consider the following... forging an alliance with the front runner in exchange for protection... hiding a unit... you're not out until your last unit is killed... making one city invulnerable.... or going out on your own terms... in a blaze of glory.
